Quick Tip Tutorial: Easily Thread a Needle

Here’s a super quick tip on how to easily thread a needle without wetting the end of the yarn. This works whether you’re working with knitting yarn or sewing thread.

1. Make sure the needle is the appropriate size to the yarn. This is a size 18 darning needle and 4ply yarn.

2. Create a loop at the end of the thread.

3. Place the loop over the eye of the needle and create some tension and pull to the right to compress the yarn against the needle.

4. Pinch the yarn over the eye of the needle.

5. Keeping yarn completely within thumb and forefinger, slide off needle. The fold of the yarn should not be visible between the fingers.

6. Slowly open your fingers while pushing the fold through the eye of the needle.

7. The yarn/thread can be pulled through the eye of the needle.

8. An easily threaded needle with no need to wet the end of the yarn.
