Merinette is perfect for those 5 x 20g 4ply / fingering mini skein sets. It’s a bandana-style cowlette which gives you the look of a shawl but using a lot less yarn. Plus, it has the added benefit of being practical and staying in place.
I’ve collaborated with Giddy Aunt Yarns before for Barque and I love their aesthetic and I’m a regular customer of theirs.
Just for transparency’s sake, this design wasn’t a collaboration. I bought the mini skein set myself and I was inspired to design with it.
Merinette is the cute little sibling of my recent shawl, Merin. It uses similar stitch patterns, which is a simple garter lace pattern and lots of knit and purl. There’s only a small palette of lace stitches used.
Hopefully, Meriniette is easy enough to be a relaxing knit but just enough change to keep it interesting.
Merinette uses the 5 mini skeins in fairly even quantities. All 5 colours are balanced throughout the cowl, so you don’t have to worry about what colour should go where.
As with Variegata, Merinette is available in regular PDF and a mobile-optimised version. In other words, you don’t have to keep zooming in and out, if you work on a mobile phone screen.
I made my sample very quickly, as I enjoyed it so much. The first section is worked flat like a top down triangular shawl.
Then, you move to working in the round.
